Strengthening the U.S./Canadian Alliance
Drs. Stan Kutcher and Kathy Short presented a paper related to school-based
mental health research in Canada at an international meeting held in Minneapolis
in November, "Strengthening the U.S./Canadian Alliance: A workshop to advance

KM Lab @ HWDSB featured in "Amplifying Change":
The development of the KM Lab @ HWDSB was supported by an Expertise Mobilization
Award from the Provincial Centre of Excellence for Child and Youth Mental
Health at CHEO. The Lab is featured in the Centre's most recent Annual Report,
Amplifying
Change.
The School Board - University Research Exchange (SURE)-Inaugural
Conference
The School Board - University Research Exchange (SURE) held its first "Collaborative
Research Percolator" at the University of Western Ontario on October 30,
2009. SURE is comprised of Faculties of Education and school districts in
the London Region and is supported by the London Region MiSA Professional
Network Centre. The Percolator event provided a venue for presentation of
a number of collaborative research projects in the region, and facilitated
research-practitioner dialogue on pertinent issues in education. For an

Policy-Ready paper on School-Based Mental Health
In response to increasing concerns about student mental health, the Provincial
Centre of Excellence for Child and Youth Mental Health at CHEO commissioned
a policy-ready paper on this issue. Taking Mental Health to School: A policy-oriented
paper on school-based mental health in Ontario (Santor, Short, & Ferguson,
2009) and the companion paper, Scanning the Practice Landscape in School-Based
Mental Health in Ontario (Short, Ferguson, & Santor, 2009) are now available
on the Centre of Excellence website.
Summer 2009 issue of Leaders & Learners
The CHAT Team has had an opportunity to share their journey in the summer
2009 issue of Leaders & Learners, the official magazine of the Canadian
Association for School Administrators. This issue is focussed on child and
youth mental health, and features a discussion of critical issues and practice
examples from around the country. The CHAT article, Mental Health Promotion
in Schools: Using CHAT to Build Resilient Students, describes the enablers
and challenges involved in bringing an evidence-based universal mental health

Canadian Safe School Network conference
Dr. Kathy Short was invited to present a paper on Mental Health Promotion
in Schools at the recent Canadian Safe School Network conference in Toronto.
The theme of this event was: Behind the Mask: An Examination of Mental Health
in Schools. Kathy's presentation focused on issues in school-based mental
health, and highlighted two examples of mental health promotion programming
in action (CHAT and the School-Based Mental Health Learning Forum). You
